Bar the brief sojourn by 47635 which was based there for 16 months the last ‘Brush type 4’ which worked a mainline train over the Swanage branch was in 1966 – some 43 years ago. To use 47245 for this trip was very apt because as D1922, this Brush type 4 was one of only six that were ever allocated to the Southern Region at Eastleigh depot (70D) in mid-1966, to help out the ailing Bullied Pacific’s on the last turns of the 'Bournemouth Belle' and it is known that D1922 worked to Swanage around this time, hauling the (Sundays only) 1812 Swanage – Eastleigh service. D1922 was built at Brush falcon works and entered service for British railways on 3rd December 1966 with works No. 684, and was allocated to Cardiff Canton (86A). In October 1966 the loco transfered to Eastleigh depot (70D) to aid the ailing Bullied pacifics on the 'Bournemouth Belle' and remained there until September 1968 when the loco transfered back to Cardiff Canton (86A). In October 1973, D1922 became 47245 under the new TOPS numbering system. In October 1978 47245 became a Bristol Bath Road (BR) allocated loco, a spell at Tinsley followed in July 1987 and then the loco became a 'Railfreight distribution' locomotive for the next few years, which included working the eurotunnel automotive trains. In April 1998 47245 transfered to Bescot (BS) and just under a year later in February 1999 was withdrawn. 47245 was then bought by the present owners 'West Coast Rail' in December 2003 and based at Carnforth. While at the E.S.R. 47365 was to be restored and then made available for 'spot hire' - sadly this never happened and 47365 was subsequently 'cut up' by Booths on the 9th October 2007. RIP. (At least a part of the loco lives on!)
